Johnson & Johnson seeks a Director of Medical Affairs for Surgery EMEA to lead medical governance, safety, and clinical operations across the region, ensuring strategic alignment and regulatory compliance.
This senior leadership position provides broad medical oversight for Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery across the EMEA region, covering both Ethicon and Mentor business units. The role is responsible for establishing the strategic vision for the Medical Department, managing clinical operations, and ensuring that all medical activities support business priorities while delivering optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain high standards for medical governance throughout the EMEA region.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage product safety initiatives.
- Oversee clinical operations for products before and after market launch.
- Direct medical operations to align with business goals and improve patient care.
- Define the strategic direction and provide administrative leadership for the Medical Department and its teams.
- Engage with physicians, key opinion leaders, and industry organizations to manage professional relationships.
- Manage the operational expenditure for medical activities, ensuring adherence to budget forecasts.
- Deliver scientific and medical expertise for all approved medical products.
- Coordinate local clinical trials and integrate them with global study programs.
- Create and verify the accuracy of medical and scientific content for healthcare professionals.
- Ensure strict adherence to global Johnson & Johnson guidelines, local codes of conduct, and regulatory requirements.
- Fulfill safety reporting obligations at both local and global levels.
- Support the Health Care Compliance Officer in addressing legal matters.
- Assist the Communications Director and Government Affairs team in managing media inquiries.
- Offer medical and scientific counsel to the Executive Board.
Requirements
- Must hold a medical degree and be a qualified physician.
- Possess a minimum of five years of experience within the pharmaceutical or medical device sectors.
- Demonstrate strong project management capabilities, including analytical evaluation, team leadership, negotiation, and resource allocation.
- Show proficiency in budget forecasting and financial implementation.
- Exhibit strategic thinking, commercial awareness, and sound decision-making abilities.
- Balance technical medical knowledge with practical commercial realities.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working as a medical professional in a medical device or diagnostics organization.
- An MBA qualification.
