Section Leader - Pharmaceutical Development 100 - 80%

Roche seeks a Section Leader to manage parenteral formulation development from preclinical stages through launch. The role involves leading a team of scientists and ensuring strategic alignment across global sites.

This position sits within the Pharma Global Technical Operations organization, which is responsible for manufacturing and delivering Roche’s therapies to patients worldwide. The Pharmaceutical Development department focuses on creating parenteral drug products from Phase 1 through to market launch. As a member of the leadership team, the Section Leader will guide a group of roughly eight scientists, taking full accountability for formulation development from the preclinical phase through to commercial product support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately eight scientists, cultivating a culture of trust, continuous learning, and high performance.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance for the formulation of protein-based biologics, synthetic parenterals, and gene therapies across all stages from preclinical to commercial support.
  • Oversee project schedules, prioritize critical initiatives, and allocate resources efficiently to ensure successful portfolio delivery across clinical phases.
  • Integrate Lean Production System (LPS) principles into daily workflows to promote operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Direct the creation, review, and strategic alignment of regulatory documents, including IMPD, BLA, and PAS submissions.
  • Contribute to the strategic vision of Drug Product Development units in the EU and US, ensuring global alignment and long-term departmental success.
  • Serve as a key representative for the function in global stakeholder interactions, advocating for agility, harmonization, and innovation.
  • Drive research into novel pharmaceutical technologies to maintain Roche’s scientific leadership and stay ahead of industry trends.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering field, or equivalent industry experience, along with at least eight years of experience in biopharmaceuticals.
  • Deep technical expertise in parenteral formulation development, end-to-end pharmaceutical development, and Health Authority filing requirements.
  • Five or more years of direct people management experience, with a proven track record of coaching, recruiting, and building high-performing scientific teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with fluent proficiency in English.

Nice to have

  • Experience with device development is considered an advantage.
