AI Specialist in Biomedical Research

Novartis seeks an AI Specialist for an 18-24 month program in Basel, Switzerland, to apply deep learning to biomedical research and drug discovery.

This position is part of a specialized program designed to attract early-career AI talent to contribute to the drug discovery and development continuum. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team on cutting-edge projects aimed at discovering new medications, with the objective of advancing to a higher level upon successful completion of the program.

Responsibilities

• Create and assess new deep neural network structures to address specific scientific challenges.
• Share findings and insights with both technical specialists and non-technical subject matter experts.
• Support the deployment of AI solutions and encourage their adoption across the broader scientific and data science groups.
• Lead AI efforts by collaborating with cross-functional teams, including R&D, IT, and business units.

Requirements

• Hold a Master's or PhD in Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics.
• Demonstrate experience in executing and delivering AI-driven projects.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills to explain complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Show proficiency in algorithm development, deep neural network creation and evaluation, model deployment, and evangelism.
• Identify problems where AI solutions can be applied.
• Demonstrate data stewardship skills, including the ability to work with big and complex datasets, assemble, and prepare data for AI use.
• Show expertise in architecting and delivering deep models from end to end.
• Demonstrate eagerness to work with people from a variety of backgrounds – from technical to scientific to executive management.
• Show willingness to learn how to tailor communications and presentation to the audience involved.
