In this leadership position within the AI Methods group at Novartis AI for Research, you will spearhead the creation of sophisticated machine learning techniques that reveal new insights throughout the biomedical research process. Your efforts will span from pinpointing new therapeutic targets to speeding up clinical translation, ultimately helping to bring innovative medicines to patients more quickly.
Responsibilities
- Guide cross-functional teams in creating and implementing reliable, scalable machine learning systems for drug discovery.
- Oversee the advancement of essential machine learning capabilities for key AI applications in biomedical research.
- Spot opportunities for methodological breakthroughs across the entire drug discovery workflow.
- Develop sophisticated algorithms, models, and workflows to speed up therapeutic discovery and development.
- Foster and manage strategic partnerships with top academic institutions and external research organizations.
- Serve as a go-to expert on cutting-edge machine learning techniques across various research fields.
- Convert intricate model results into practical scientific hypotheses and direct experimental planning.
- Set and track meaningful performance indicators for AI models to guarantee measurable research outcomes.
- Work with diverse teams to ensure AI solutions align with scientific and business goals.
- Encourage the use and understanding of advanced AI methods throughout the wider research community.
Requirements
- At least six years of experience in building and deploying machine learning solutions within drug discovery fields.
- Practical experience applying machine learning to target identification, protein modelling, or translational research.
- Extensive background in large-scale model training, high performance computing, and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of modern machine learning methods, including representation learning and neural network architectures.
- Strong proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks, along with solid software development and version control practices.
- Proven track record of driving innovation and delivering impactful machine learning solutions in complex, matrixed environments.
Nice to have
- Published contributions, patents, or open-source projects in advanced machine learning research.
- Experience with multimodal or foundation models applied to biomedical data such as imaging, genomics, or molecular structures.
