Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operator (Safety Driver)

TSMG seeks a Mid-level Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operator in Bern, CH, to ensure safe testing and deployment of robotaxi fleets across Europe.

The company is looking for a safety driver to support the testing, validation, and commercial scaling of autonomous vehicle fleets throughout Europe. This role focuses on ensuring the safe operation of self-driving vehicles during pilot programs and ride-hailing services while collaborating with engineering and fleet operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor autonomous vehicles during testing, validation, and commercial robotaxi fleet operations.
• Supervise the self-driving system's performance while maintaining awareness of traffic conditions.
• Take manual control of the vehicle when required by safety protocols or operational procedures.
• Complete assigned routes while adhering to local traffic regulations and company procedures.
• Support the deployment of autonomous ride-hailing services by maintaining safe vehicle operation.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles are deployment-ready.
• Verify vehicle cleanliness and inspect critical systems like cameras, sensors, and lighting before each shift.
• Report damage, abnormal behavior, or maintenance concerns to depot and technical teams.
• Ensure vehicles remain available for daily operations to support fleet readiness.
• Record disengagements, observations, and operational events using company reporting tools.
• Provide structured feedback on vehicle behavior, traffic conditions, and unusual scenarios.
• Assist engineering teams by documenting situations that improve autonomous driving system performance.

Requirements

• Valid European driver's license.
• Minimum 5 years of driving experience.
• Clean driving record with no major violations.
• Ability to pass a background verification (BGV).
• Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screening.
• Excellent situational awareness and defensive driving skills.
• Comfortable driving for extended periods in urban and highway environments.
• Ability to follow detailed operational procedures with high attention to detail.
• Strong communication and reporting skills.
• Upper-Intermediate English.

Nice to have

• Experience as a professional driver, fleet driver, chauffeur, ride-hailing driver, or vehicle tester.
• Previous experience supporting automotive testing, ADAS validation, mapping, or fleet operations.
• Familiarity with electric vehicles (EVs).
• Experience working in shift-based or 24/7 operational environments.
