Lonza seeks a Bioprocess Engineer for onsite work in Visp, Switzerland. This mid-level role involves leading upstream and downstream processing operations for therapeutic protein and BioConjugate manufacturing while ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety standards.
Positioned at Lonza's facility in Visp, Switzerland, this mid-level engineering role is critical to supporting the company's global expansion in life sciences. The position plays a direct and long-term part in managing the ongoing global pandemic response by ensuring the timely and safe production of essential therapies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee clinical and commercial manufacturing operations to meet production schedules while strictly adhering to established safety and quality protocols.
- Serve as the functional lead responsible for preparation, execution of manufacturing steps, cleaning procedures, and changeover activities within the assigned production area.
- Direct one or more specific upstream processing (USP) units, such as seed trains, primary cultivation, or harvest stages, for producing therapeutic proteins using mammalian or microbial expression systems.
- Manage one or more defined downstream processing (DSP) stages, including capture, polishing, or filling phases, to purify therapeutic proteins harvested from mammalian or microbial cell cultures.
- Take full ownership of complete processes or specific process units for clinical and commercial manufacturing projects focused on therapeutic BioConjugates, including Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADC).
Requirements
- Hold a Master's degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related Life Science discipline, or possess a Bachelor's degree accompanied by relevant pharmaceutical production experience.
- Demonstrate functional knowledge of either upstream processing equipment (e.g., bioreactors) or downstream processing units (e.g., chromatography).
- Possess practical experience with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and a solid understanding of bioprocess technology principles.
- Exhibit excellent communication proficiency in English.

- Previous hands-on experience within a biomanufacturing environment.
- Functional proficiency in German.
