HUBER+SUHNER seeks a Mid-level CNC Swiss Lathe Programmer/Machinist in CH to operate, program, and troubleshoot Star CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and TopSolid.
This position focuses on the full lifecycle of CNC machining for Swiss-type lathes. The incumbent is responsible for interpreting technical drawings, configuring necessary tooling, and developing optimized programs to ensure high-quality production while maintaining machine efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Configure and operate Star CNC Swiss lathes, including setting up collets, guide bushings, bar feeders, and workholding fixtures.
- Develop, edit, and refine CNC programs utilizing G-code and M-code standards.
- Diagnose and resolve machining challenges such as tool wear, chatter, burrs, dimensional deviations, and cycle time inefficiencies.
- Execute precise machine adjustments, tool changes, and offset modifications.
- Interpret engineering blueprints, drawings, tolerances, and inspection specifications.
- Conduct part inspections using precision instruments like micrometers, calipers, indicators, comparators, and drop gages.
- Implement process improvements and program modifications to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and clean workspace for machines, tools, and materials.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of hands-on experience operating Star CNC Swiss lathes.
- Proven proficiency with precision inspection instruments.
- Specific operational experience with Star models such as SW-12, SR-20, SR-32, or comparable Swiss-type lathes.
Nice to have
- Technical degree, vocational certification, or trade school training in CNC machining or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with CAM software including TopSolid, Mastercam, or SolidWorks CAM.
- Experience machining materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, copper, or brass.
- Demonstrated ability to reduce scrap rates and optimize cycle times.
- Deep understanding of CNC Swiss tooling, guide bushings, collets, and bar feeder systems.
- Strong capability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and work instructions.
