Construction Project Engineer (SCE-PPM-CS-2026-92-GRAP)

CERN seeks an Entry Level Construction Project Engineer in Geneva to oversee site activities, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure construction projects meet technical, safety, and budgetary goals.

Positioned within the Site and Civil Engineering Department’s Project Portfolio Management Group, this role supports the delivery of complex construction initiatives at CERN. The engineer reports to a Project Manager, coordinating on-site activities, managing stakeholder interfaces, and ensuring that execution aligns with technical specifications, schedules, budgets, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction activities to guarantee adherence to contractual drawings and specifications, working closely with external consultants.
• Implement safety protocols on worksites, identify potential risks, prevent incidents, and manage the remediation of any defects.
• Support testing, commissioning, and handover processes to ensure a smooth transition of completed works.
• Contribute to design, coordination, and procurement phases, while monitoring consultants' deliverables during the construction stage.
• Coordinate interfaces between contractors and CERN’s specialized services, organize the worksite, and track progress, quality, and budget.

Requirements

• Professional background in Civil Engineering or a related field, holding a Master’s degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation experience, or a PhD with up to 3 years of experience.
• Experience in civil engineering design or on-site construction works.
• Proven experience in coordination roles.
• Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract history.
• Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Project.
• Familiarity with construction project management tools and methodologies.
• Skills in quality control, writing procedures, reports, and minutes.
• Fluency in spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
• A valid driving licence.
