CERN seeks an Entry Level Mechanical Technician in Geneva for accelerator support. The role involves machining, assembly, and maintenance of beam-intercepting devices and related systems.
This position supports the section responsible for the conceptual design, construction, operation, and maintenance of beam-intercepting devices across CERN's accelerator complex. The role is essential for ensuring the safety and efficient operation of these critical systems.
Responsibilities
- Manage the procurement, storage, and shipping of raw materials and components.
- Condition components to meet Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) standards for collimators.
- Machine simple parts according to CAD-generated drawings.
- Assemble collimators, sub-components, and auxiliary systems.
- Support the assembly of HL-LHC beam dump systems.
- Maintain accurate records and update relevant databases.
- Install, commission, and maintain equipment.
- Handle the safe disposal and storage of radioactive parts and withdrawn equipment.
- Provide mechanical and logistical support across various CERN facilities.
Requirements
- Experience in assembling and testing precision mechanics.
- Understanding of mechanical component design.
- Proficiency with CAD systems and 3D/2D drawing.
- Fluency in spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
- Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
- No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible.
