Lonza seeks a Director of Manufacturing Lead in Visp, Switzerland, to oversee production operations, manage teams, and ensure safety, quality, and delivery standards.
This role involves directing the daily operations of a manufacturing unit, with primary accountability for manufacturing execution, safety, quality, and on-time delivery. The position also includes leading a team of production leaders, supervisors, and specialists, while managing operational readiness and supporting investment projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of production managers, supervisors, and specialists, handling all aspects of personnel management such as hiring, development, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure all production campaigns run smoothly, adhering to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Monitor production costs, provide forecasts for campaigns, and contribute to budgeting and product cost calculations.
- Participate in the Functional Leadership Team to support production management, including housekeeping, team conduct, training, and operational controls.
- Act as a key contact for business unit teams regarding production planning, technical assessments, and feasibility requests.
- Track performance through weekly reports, dashboards, and other reporting tools.
- Facilitate the transition of investment projects to the manufacturing team, ensuring proper training and documentation.
Requirements
- Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven leadership abilities, including self-motivation, integrity, perseverance, and a focus on results.
- Significant experience in chemical manufacturing, preferably in leadership positions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering.
- Strong understanding of GMP and EHS regulations.
- Fluency in both English and German.

- Experience with Operational Excellence or LEAN principles is beneficial.
