Fellow (Cardiology)

The University Hospital Basel seeks a Senior Fellow in Cardiology to join a large, international team. The position combines clinical work in structural heart interventions with research opportunities at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Basel.

This position is embedded within a large, international workforce of more than 7,500 staff members representing nearly 90 nationalities. The role focuses on advancing medical practice through innovative research, knowledge exchange, and contributing to the development of future hospital models.

Responsibilities

• Assist in enrolling patients for global, multi-center clinical trials.
• Provide support in outpatient clinic settings.
• Take on growing duties in the catheterization laboratory during structural heart valve procedures, including TAVI, TEER, and TMVR.
• Dedicate one weekly day to the cath lab for hands-on experience with structural heart interventions.
• Master advanced procedural techniques, such as analyzing pre-procedural CT scans with specialized software.
• Attend Heart Team meetings three times each week.
• Take part in clinical rounds and journal club discussions.
• Help make patient management decisions at a consultant level.
• Conduct clinical research activities within the Cardiovascular Research Institute Basel (CRIB).
• Receive guidance on study design, data handling, analysis, writing manuscripts, and publishing results.
• Volunteer for on-call shifts to build experience in emergency care scenarios.

Requirements

• Successfully completed core training in Internal Medicine and General Cardiology.
• Possess foundational skills in coronary angiography and interventional techniques.
• Demonstrate fluency in both English and German.
• Hold a medical license recognized by the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health to perform clinical duties.
• Be ready to contribute to patient care at a consultant level within the cath lab.
• Show strong motivation to engage in both clinical practice and research focused on structural heart disease.

• Knowledge of French is considered an advantage.
