Novartis seeks a Director of Legal TA Immunology and CRM, International to lead legal strategy for therapeutic assets in Basel. This hybrid role requires extensive pharma legal experience and team leadership.

The company is looking for a senior legal leader to join the Legal Leadership Team for Commercial, Medical, and Value & Access at its Basel headquarters. In this capacity, the individual will guide a group of attorneys who act as strategic advisors and trusted partners to the Immunology and CRM Therapeutic Area Leadership Team. The position involves overseeing legal matters for therapeutic area assets and alliances throughout their development and commercialization lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary legal advisor for the therapeutic area, managing all business-related legal issues.
  • Deliver strategic legal guidance on therapeutic area strategies, brand planning, portfolio choices, and associated medical activities.
  • Provide counsel on value and access strategies, external partner management, integrations, investor relations, communications, and patient advocacy.
  • Work with the Ethics, Risk, and Compliance Function to identify, manage, and train staff on potential legal and compliance risks.
  • Direct the drafting and negotiation of complex research, development, and commercial agreements.
  • Assist in evaluating and conducting due diligence for business development and M&A opportunities.
  • Lead the integration of acquired assets and companies into the International division within the therapeutic area scope.
  • Collaborate with commercial, regulatory, and medical departments to ensure timely review of promotional materials, medical resources, congress content, public announcements, and investor relations materials.
  • Lead and align brand strategy and claims management across international markets.
  • Drive innovation and contribute to new strategies supporting therapeutic area goals, with a strong focus on product launches.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top legal talent by creating meaningful development opportunities for legal associates.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree, plus a prior (Prof.) Bachelor’s degree.
  • Over 10 years of experience providing legal counsel in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • A strong track record in product launches.
  • Demonstrated people leadership in managing, developing and coaching teams.
  • Exceptional negotiation and conflict management abilities.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
