Senior Legal Counsel TA Oncology, International

Novartis Pharma Schweiz AG seeks a Senior Legal Counsel for the International TA Oncology role in Basel. This position provides strategic legal leadership for the Breast Cancer portfolio and global commercial activities.

The company is looking for a lead legal partner to support the Breast Cancer Therapeutic Area and its worldwide portfolio. The role involves delivering strategic legal counsel to commercial, medical, value and access, and development teams to ensure successful product launches and compliant operations.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and reduce legal, regulatory, and compliance risks associated with major business operations.
• Manage the drafting, negotiation, and administration of intricate research, development, and commercial contracts.
• Assist with business development initiatives, alliance management, and the integration of strategic assets and partnerships.
• Examine promotional, medical, congress, and external communication materials to ensure they meet compliance standards.
• Foster innovation by supporting novel business models and contributing to effective product launch strategies.
• Enhance organizational legal capability through training, cross-functional teamwork, and knowledge exchange.
• Collaborate closely with regional and country legal teams to provide consistent and coordinated support for the Breast Cancer portfolio.

Requirements

• Hold a law degree and bar admission, demonstrating strong legal expertise within a commercial setting.
• Possess substantial post-qualification legal experience.
• Demonstrate a solid grasp of pharmaceutical legal frameworks, compliance mandates, and risk management principles.
• Show a proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and offering practical advice in complex global environments.
• Exhibit excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building abilities across diverse cross-functional teams.
• Be fluent in English and capable of navigating ambiguity while driving solutions independently.

Nice to have

• Prior in-house legal experience within a global pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare organization.
• Experience supporting international business operations.
