Novartis Pharma Schweiz AG seeks a Senior Global Program Safety Team Lead in Oncology for a hybrid role in Basel. The position requires extensive experience in drug development, medical safety, and leadership to manage safety strategies and teams.
The company is looking for a leader to oversee the Medical Safety organization within the Oncology Therapeutic Area. This role focuses on driving efficient operations and providing science-based contributions to benefit-risk evaluations across the entire product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Coach and train Medical Safety physicians and scientists to enhance their clinical and scientific expertise.
- Define safety goals and assess the performance of team members within the Therapeutic Area or Development Unit.
- Identify high-potential staff and present their profiles to the leadership team.
- Deliver expert safety guidance for clinical development programs assigned to specific projects.
- Oversee safety issue management from the formation of the Global Program Team through to life cycle management.
- Detect, monitor, evaluate, and interpret safety signals, ensuring appropriate management of related information.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records for all medical safety activities related to assigned compounds.
- Lead the creation of safety strategies for responses to health authorities.
- Drive the development of departmental and functional business unit objectives.
Requirements
- A PhD, PharmD, or equivalent graduate-level healthcare professional degree is mandatory; a Medical Degree is preferred.
- At least five years of clinical experience following postdoctoral training.
- Seven or more years of progressive experience in drug development within a major pharmaceutical firm.
- Five years of experience in a global role.
- Five years of experience in a medical safety position.
- Proven ability to prepare or contribute to clinical safety assessments and regulatory submissions containing safety data.
- Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional and multicultural teams.
- Strong background in managing safety or other critical issues.
- Extensive knowledge of drug development, clinical trial methodology, regulatory requirements, scientific methods, statistics, and scientific writing.
- Excellent leadership capabilities, including coaching, motivating, and fostering teamwork.
Nice to have
- Specialty Board certification is desirable.
- Proficiency in additional languages is an advantage.
