GSK Switzerland seeks a Senior Executive Medical Director to lead clinical development for oncology assets in lung and head/neck cancers, defining strategy and governance in a hybrid role based in Baar.

This position serves as the primary clinical strategy leader at the asset level, responsible for shaping the scientific narrative and decision-making framework throughout the product lifecycle. The role acts as a strategic partner within the Medicine Development Team, ensuring clinical development is central to investment and governance choices. Candidates with either medical or non-medical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the clinical strategy, scientific narrative, and benefit-risk profile for assigned assets.
  • Act as the senior clinical authority within the Medicine Development Team core group, partnering closely with development leaders.
  • Present governance and investment cases to senior management, converting clinical evidence into actionable strategic advice.
  • Represent Clinical Development in interactions with health authorities, advisory boards, steering committees, and alliance partners.
  • Utilize AI-driven insights and advanced analytics to guide asset-level strategic choices.
  • Mentor and develop clinical staff, supporting succession planning and capability enhancement.
  • Ensure an integrated development approach that aligns target selection, regulatory strategy, and commercial readiness.
  • Provide final clinical accountability for scientific communications, including publications and congress presentations.
  • Contribute to resourcing and talent calibration decisions across the Oncology Clinical Development function.

Requirements

  • Hold a medical degree, PharmD, or PhD.
  • Possess clinical development experience in oncology within the pharmaceutical sector, or equivalent scientific/clinical expertise.
  • Demonstrate experience in asset, portfolio, or enterprise-level governance and investment decisions.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of GCP, ICH, FDA, EMA, NICE, and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Show proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams in complex matrix structures.
  • Understand clinical development processes, oncology therapeutic areas, and drug approval pathways.
  • Experience using data, advanced analytics, or emerging technologies to support clinical decisions.

Nice to have

  • Medical degree or equivalent clinical doctorate is preferred.
  • Prior experience leading or co-leading interactions with health authorities.
  • Board certification or substantial clinical experience in oncology, particularly lung and head/neck cancers.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence at an enterprise level.
  • Track record of translating clinical data into strategic decisions across development and lifecycle stages.
  • Cross-functional business acumen spanning clinical, regulatory, commercial, and access domains.
