The company is looking for a Laboratory Manager to take charge of the cell biology facility's daily activities and physical infrastructure. This position serves as the central contact for all lab-related inquiries, allowing the R&D scientists to concentrate on their research while the manager handles operational, safety, and equipment matters.
Responsibilities
- Direct daily laboratory activities and serve as the main contact for facility questions, enabling the R&D team to focus on scientific work.
- Manage the physical lab infrastructure, including electrical, gas, and storage systems, and plan necessary upgrades.
- Guarantee adherence to all safety and regulatory rules, including BSL-2 standards, occupational health guidelines, and proper waste disposal.
- Create and enforce safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and hygiene standards for all equipment and work areas.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of lab devices, coordinate maintenance, arrange repairs, and manage service agreements.
- Establish and update validation and qualification processes for automated lab systems.
- Oversee purchasing and inventory tracking to guarantee a steady supply of consumables, reagents, and chemicals.
- Regulate lab access and after-hours procedures to ensure safety and accountability.
Requirements
- Multiple years of practical experience in cell biology labs, with demonstrated expertise in BSL-2 management.
- A BSc or MSc in Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, or a completed vocational training as a Laboratory Technician.
- Swiss BSO Biosafety level 2 certification for Biosafety Officers, along with thorough knowledge of EHS protocols, BSL-2 guidelines, and SOPs.
- Proven ability to maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot both standard and advanced laboratory equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with a proactive approach to identifying bottlenecks and improving lab efficiency.
- Excellent communication abilities to collaborate effectively with R&D scientists, suppliers, and automation teams.
- Business fluency in both English and German is mandatory.
