Professorship of Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System

The University of Zurich seeks a Professorship of Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System to lead the Department of Traumatology, conduct research, and teach students in Zürich.

This position requires an expert to direct the Department of Traumatology while leading a dedicated research group. The role focuses on advancing medical science through translational research that bridges basic studies and clinical practice, supported by the university's strong ecosystem in Zürich.

Responsibilities

• Direct the operations and strategic vision of the Department of Traumatology.
• Manage and guide a specialized research team.
• Secure external grants and competitive funding for research projects.
• Deliver educational sessions and lectures for students.
• Oversee the completion of academic theses by students.
• Mentor and support the professional development of early-career scientists.
• Execute high-quality research adhering to Open Science standards.
• Collaborate with other medical disciplines at USZ and University Hospital Balgrist.

Requirements

• Proven clinical and scientific background in traumatology, with a focus on polytrauma research and patient care.
• Possession of a habilitation or an equivalent academic credential.
• Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System.
• Subspecialty certification in spinal surgery or an internationally recognized equivalent.
• Prior experience in a leadership or deputy leadership role within a university hospital department.
• German language proficiency at B2 level, or the ability to achieve it within a set timeframe.
