QA Associate Director, Facility Operations 80-100% (f/m/d)

Lonza seeks a QA Associate Director to lead facility operations and pest control quality assurance at its Visp, Switzerland site, ensuring GMP compliance and contamination prevention.

This position serves as the primary quality authority for facility operations and pest control within the Contamination Prevention & Control department. The role integrates utility systems, infrastructure, and pest management into the broader quality framework to maintain regulatory compliance and operational reliability at one of the world’s largest biologics manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert technical guidance and practical quality decisions for facility operations and pest control within the Contamination Control System.
  • Oversee quality assurance for site utilities, facility management, pest control programs, construction interfaces, and GMP-compliant facility interactions.
  • Manage governance for facility and pest control topics, including reviewing deviations, changes, GMP documentation, CAPAs, trends, and quality risk assessments.
  • Serve as the key quality subject matter expert during customer audits, regulatory inspections, internal reviews, and project evaluations.
  • Provide quality oversight for new projects, facility modifications, utility standards, infrastructure readiness, construction segregation, cross-contamination prevention, cleanroom interfaces, and handover to routine operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA Operations, QC, Hygiene, Engineering, Facilities, Utilities, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Global Quality Engineering.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for quality systems, inspection readiness, compliance standards, and GMP execution across the Visp location.

Requirements

  • University degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Quality, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing, with exposure to utilities, infrastructure, facility systems, qualification, engineering, pest control, or site quality operations.
  • Deep knowledge of GMP requirements, quality systems, deviations, CAPAs, change controls, risk management, inspections, and audits.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.

Nice to have

  • Experience with utilities, infrastructure, pest control, facility readiness, engineering or construction interfaces, and project handover.
  • Solid understanding of contamination prevention principles, cleanroom operations, qualified utilities, GMP facility interfaces, pest control expectations, and inspection readiness.
  • Ability to translate complex technical, operational, and GMP topics into clear, risk-based decisions and pragmatic quality guidance.
  • German language skills are considered an asset.
