(Senior) IT Engineer

Santhera Pharmaceuticals seeks a Senior IT Engineer in Pratteln to manage infrastructure, security, and M365 ecosystems while driving responsible AI adoption in a regulated environment.

This position is responsible for designing and maintaining secure, modern technology environments that empower staff to perform effectively. The engineer will translate business requirements into practical technical solutions, take proactive ownership of IT operations, and help guide the ethical integration of emerging technologies like AI within a fast-paced pharmaceutical setting.

Responsibilities

• Architect, sustain, and enhance IT infrastructure to guarantee high availability and optimal performance.
• Oversee networking systems, including LAN/WAN configurations, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Safeguard the organization's security posture through vulnerability management, endpoint protection, patching, and incident response.
• Administer the Microsoft 365 suite, covering Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, and Azure AD.
• Build and govern SharePoint Online environments, focusing on user adoption and structural integrity.
• Create and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks and boost efficiency.
• Serve as the primary escalation point within the ITSM framework, ensuring SLAs are met and issues are resolved promptly.
• Refine ITSM processes and update knowledge base documentation.
• Keep detailed records of all systems and changes in compliance with regulated industry standards.
• Manage the AI use-case register, perform EU AI Act risk classifications, collaborate on DPIAs, and report quarterly to executive leadership on AI adoption and risks.
• Support the AI governance framework to ensure compliant and responsible tool usage across the business.
• Act as deputy for the IT Lead or Head of IT, managing daily operations and escalations when needed.

Requirements

• Four to eight years of experience in IT operations, infrastructure leadership, and service delivery.
• Solid understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, identity protection, endpoint security, and ITIL methodologies.
• Extensive background in administering Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Azure AD, Intune, and cloud systems.
• Proven track record working within regulated sectors such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or financial services.
• Advanced proficiency in SharePoint Online, including architecture, governance, and user enablement.
• Strong scripting skills in PowerShell for automation and administration.
• Experience with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow or Jira Service Management, aligned with ITIL processes.
• Deep knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewall solutions.
• Demonstrable expertise in information security policies, tools, and incident response procedures.
• Experience supporting both on-premises and cloud-hybrid infrastructure environments.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with AI productivity tools, automation scripts, or AI-driven workflows such as Copilot or chat-based assistants.
• Familiarity with AI governance principles and responsible AI usage in enterprise settings.
• Prior experience in regulated environments is preferred.
