Sr Director, Country & Site Operations (CSO)

Biogen (Switzerland) seeks a Sr Director, Country & Site Operations in Baar to lead clinical operations across European markets, ensuring governance, team development, and operational excellence.

The company is looking for a senior leader to oversee country and site operations for assigned European regions. This role provides strategic direction to clinical country leaders and ensures the governance and performance of the clinical monitoring workforce supporting trials in all development phases.

Responsibilities

• Manage performance, delivery governance, risk management, and issue resolution for country operations in assigned European markets.
• Lead, mentor, and develop people managers and site leadership to ensure consistent execution, capability building, and sustainable workloads.
• Maintain strong site engagement, sponsor oversight, and site intelligence to guide site selection and portfolio decisions.
• Oversee monitoring delivery models (CRA/CML; FTE/FSP) and facilitate structured collaboration between Clinical Country & Site Leads, country leaders, and monitoring teams.
• Collaborate with CRO and FSP partners to drive operational excellence, monitoring effectiveness, and site performance.
• Implement CSO initiatives and operating-model changes with global applicability to support standardization and continuous improvement.
• Own budget and headcount planning for the Europe markets organization and contribute to broader CSO workforce planning.
• Partner with other CSO Leaders in the EU, including EU-CTR functions, to ensure quality and consistency across the team.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in clinical development.
• Experience across multiple clinical operations disciplines, including field-based site-facing roles.
• Experience in clinical trial delivery via an outsourcing model.
• Proven experience as a people manager.
• Strong understanding of the regulatory environment regarding GCP, clinical trial regulations, and regulatory guidance pertinent to clinical trial conduct in the assigned region.
• Strong project management skills and experience leading internal and external global cross-functional projects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience working with various levels of senior management.
• University degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
