System Engineer - Projektleiter/-in

The Swiss Federal Administration seeks a System Engineer and Project Manager in Wädenswil to lead IT infrastructure projects and support Agroscope's research operations. This hybrid role requires strong technical expertise in Linux/Windows, HPC, and project management, along with proficiency in German, French, and English.

This position directly supports the IT group's objectives by managing and modernizing Agroscope's IT landscape. The role provides a unique opportunity to work within a complex, heterogeneous environment while gaining exposure to various research activities. The successful candidate will serve as the technical project lead, bridging the gap between infrastructure implementation and the needs of scientific users.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy core IT infrastructure elements, such as HPC clusters, containerization platforms, and cloud services.
• Configure and maintain application and system environments on Windows and Linux, tailored to the specific needs of scientific staff.
• Lead technical projects within a complex and diverse IT environment.
• Partner with research teams to address and resolve intricate technical challenges.

Requirements

• A university degree in IT or equivalent recognized training, combined with substantial IT experience and formal project management education.
• Deep expertise in IT infrastructure and operating systems, specifically Linux and Windows.
• Hands-on experience with workload managers like SLURM and high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
• Strong programming abilities in Python and Bash for administrative and automation purposes.
• Fluency in two official Swiss languages, plus excellent written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with version control systems such as git, configuration management tools, and containerization technologies.
