The company is seeking a Technical Project Manager based in Muttenz to lead capital investment projects in northern Switzerland, overseeing engineering, costs, and safety from initiation to handover.

This role focuses on delivering components of the Syngenta capital investment program by planning and executing engineering projects. The position is based in Muttenz, with primary responsibility for projects in northern Switzerland, while also providing occasional regional support as workload dictates.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering capital projects or programs, ensuring timely implementation of new or improved assets within agreed cost, schedule, quality, and safety parameters.
  • Provide expert technical and project management advice at key project milestones.
  • Collaborate with principal engineers and stakeholders to ensure engineering solutions meet Syngenta HSE and business requirements.
  • Maintain strong on-site presence to monitor and supervise project execution.
  • Serve as Project Manager or Project Engineer for one or more capital projects, primarily in Muttenz and Kaisten, with occasional support to other regional sites.
  • Own the full project lifecycle, from initiation to start-up, for major or multiple minor/medium projects simultaneously.
  • Define project scope by translating business needs into options, managing trade-offs, and selecting the best fit to meet competing objectives.
  • Contribute to timely applications for engineering capital proposals.
  • Participate in Process Risk Assessments (PRA) and safety initiatives, ensuring adherence to the PRA process.
  • Track costs and progress of construction activities to meet tight deadlines.
  • Design and specify equipment in collaboration with team members.
  • Identify and monitor standards for engineering design, procurement, and construction to ensure compliance with company policy and local regulations.
  • Apply modern project management processes, controls, change and risk management techniques for effective delivery.
  • Coordinate all technical meetings.
  • Act as internal quality control, defining and disseminating Critical Success Factors and KPIs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Plan and monitor mechanical and asset commissioning phases.
  • Close and document projects, handing over fully operational assets to the site.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in a technical field, ideally process engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar.
  • Project Management Professionalism certification or equivalent education.
  • Several years of professional experience in project management, preferably in the Agrochemical, Pharma, or Chemical industry.
  • Experience monitoring construction projects as a project engineer and manager, covering the complete project lifecycle, preferably in multinational companies.
  • Experience leading external resources.
  • Solid understanding of maintenance principles and process risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of operational HSE and compliance requirements for Capex investments.
  • Precise and structured working method, entrepreneurial thinking and action.
  • Ability to ensure effective coordination for safe, reliable, effective, and sustainable implementation.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed leader able to adapt to changing and competing demands.
  • Assertive communication style and ability to engage at all levels on site.
  • Fluency with digital tools.
  • Advanced level of English and German (a third European language is appreciated).
