This position belongs to the Engineering department, specifically the Cooling and Ventilation group, which handles the design, construction, and upkeep of climate control infrastructure for CERN's physics accelerators and laboratories. The candidate will join the PSM Section, a team dedicated to managing the operational and maintenance aspects of these cooling and ventilation networks across the accelerator complex and experimental zones. Daily tasks will involve overseeing installation projects, commissioning new equipment, upgrading current infrastructure, and reinforcing older systems.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and manage preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on climate control networks, utilizing the CMMS platform for tracking and execution.
- Carry out operational duties to keep cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration plants running smoothly.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding all equipment-related issues under your supervision.
- Develop and recommend optimal solutions for user requirements during renovation or modification projects.
- Oversee external contractor activities for maintenance and installation, ensuring adherence to contractual terms and technical specifications.
- Support projects from the initial design stage through to the testing and commissioning of new cooling and ventilation installations.
- Keep technical documentation current and aligned with established quality standards.
- Guarantee strict compliance with safety protocols during all interventions.
- Track activity progress, manage schedules, and monitor costs while providing regular updates.
Requirements
- Possess a higher technical diploma or equivalent practical background in Refrigeration or Electromechanics, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience in maintaining, operating, and installing cooling, ventilation, and industrial systems.
- Show prior involvement in the technical coordination of outside contractors.
- Display proficiency in utilizing CMMS tools for maintenance management.
- Have working knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems.
- Possess initial experience with compressed air systems.
- Show experience in operating and maintaining refrigeration units.
- Demonstrate a track record in installation tasks.
- Experience in managing HVAC plants, networks, cooling water systems, detector cooling systems, and electrical circuits.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
Nice to have
- Hold a fluid handling permit or an equivalent certification.
- Bring experience in supervising work sites and acting as a technical lead for contractors.
- Show a willingness to begin learning French.
