Assistant Head Teacher (40% Part-Time)

Flying Teachers seeks a Senior Assistant Head Teacher for a 40% part-time, on-site role in Zurich. This position supports academic leadership and operational efficiency within the English department.

The company requires a proactive and organized professional to strengthen academic leadership and ensure operational efficiency. This role provides crucial support to the Head Teacher by managing operational tasks, preparing academic materials, and handling routine coordination, directly impacting the quality of English programs and departmental workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor teaching staff compliance with deadlines for course and lesson plans, sending reminders and following up as needed.
  • Analyze weekly course feedback and evaluations to compile concise summary reports for the Head Teacher.
  • Draft initial versions of worksheets, tests, and supplementary teaching materials based on specific instructions.
  • Organize and maintain the digital resource library, ensuring an accessible index of lesson plans and materials.
  • Format lesson plans, tests, reports, and the departmental newsletter to ensure consistency with brand templates.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating internal records and communication tools, such as Switchboard entries.
  • Review applicant CVs sent by HR and provide a ranked shortlist of qualified candidates with brief notes.
  • Handle client enquiries regarding Cambridge exams and register candidates with the external exam partner.
  • Deputize for the Head Teacher in a limited capacity for specific, pre-defined tasks during her absence.

Requirements

  • Minimum teaching qualification: CELTA (or equivalent accredited certificate).
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of practical classroom experience post-certification.
  • Proven experience in academic coordination, materials development, or a senior teacher role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C2 level).
  • High proficiency with standard office and document formatting software (e.g., Microsoft Suite of applications).

Nice to have

  • DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or working towards it is preferred.
  • A Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Educational Leadership is an advantage.
