Computational Biology - Oncology

Roche seeks a Computational Biology specialist in Oncology (Mid-level, onsite in Basel) to drive data strategy and AI/ML insights within its pRED organization.

This position sits within the Computational Biology department of Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) unit, specifically in the Research Oncology sub-team. The primary objective is to leverage computational biology to establish a competitive edge for oncology research, acting as a strategic partner to scientists and cross-functional groups to translate complex data into actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement the data and analytics strategy for the assigned oncology area.
  • Extract high-value insights from complex datasets to inform scientific decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists and cross-functional teams as a trusted analytical partner.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and continuously improving team environment.
  • Communicate findings clearly and create impactful visualizations to support stakeholders.

Requirements

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Deep understanding of cancer biology principles.
  • Strong expertise in AI/ML methodologies and modern AI-driven workflows.
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python for data analysis.
  • Experience handling large-scale biological datasets.
  • Ability to communicate complex results clearly and produce effective visualizations.

Nice to have

  • Practical experience with LLMs, AI-assisted coding, or agentic workflows in biological contexts.
  • Familiarity with cancer cell dependency, perturbation, or drug-response data analysis.
