Roche Diagnostics GmbH seeks a Senior Scientist in Computational Biology for Neuroscience & Rare Diseases in Basel. The role involves analyzing complex biological datasets to support therapeutic development and drug discovery.
This position sits within the Computational Biology and Medicine department, which leverages extensive pharmaceutical R&D datasets to deepen the understanding of disease mechanisms and target biology. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary group focused on neurological conditions, contributing to the development of novel therapeutics that aim to improve patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Analyze complex, high-dimensional datasets including single-cell, spatial, proteomics, metabolomics, and human genetics data to aid in the creation of new treatments and biomarkers.
- Partner with AI and machine learning teams to apply advanced quantitative techniques, supporting drug discovery initiatives in the Neuroscience and Rare Diseases fields.
- Provide clear, evidence-based insights to guide strategic decisions regarding the therapeutic portfolio.
- Help shape the data and analytics strategy for Neuroscience and Rare Diseases projects in coordination with internal partners.
- Build strong working relationships with stakeholders across disease areas, laboratory groups, and computational teams.
- Foster a collaborative environment that emphasizes scientific excellence, ongoing improvement, and constructive feedback.
- Mentor colleagues and share expertise to support the professional development of the team.
Requirements
- A PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline, ideally accompanied by 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Solid background in disease biology; familiarity with neurodegenerative diseases or neuro-immune interactions is advantageous.
- Proficiency in analyzing high-dimensional omic data (such as scRNA-seq, spatial data, proteomics, metabolomics), population statistical genetics, or integrative multi-omics from preclinical or clinical samples.
- A track record of scientific impact demonstrated by primary authorship in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong programming capabilities in R and/or Python, along with experience using Linux/Unix systems and processing data on High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters.
- Familiarity with statistical and machine learning methodologies.
- Excellent communication abilities, capable of presenting intricate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences while thriving in cross-functional, collaborative settings.

- Prior experience in drug discovery or translational research is highly regarded.
- Specialized knowledge in neurodegenerative diseases or neuro-immune interactions.
