Senior Principal Scientist - Proteomics

Novartis is looking for a Senior Principal Scientist in Proteomics to lead high-impact analyses within its Discovery Sciences Translational Profiling team in Basel.

Based in Basel, this position sits within the global Discovery Sciences Translational Profiling team, a collective of experts spanning proteomics, metabolomics, and data science. The scientist will partner with cross-functional project teams and multiple disease areas across Novartis Biomedical Research to help design and deliver transformative therapeutics.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage proteomics analyses for drug discovery programs, covering early research and translational work with patient samples.
• Participate in interdisciplinary research initiatives within a collaborative matrix structure, working alongside internal teams and external partners.
• Keep the proteomics platform current by tracking technological developments and aligning capabilities with project priorities.
• Foster innovation by promoting advanced tools and cross-disciplinary projects, including novel applications like low-input and spatial proteomics.
• Mentor junior researchers, assist project teams, and support the work of direct and matrix reports.

Requirements

• A PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field, along with at least five years of academic experience applying proteomics to biomedical research, or equivalent industry experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.
• Deep expertise in proteomics methods and technologies, demonstrated through a strong publication record and significant contributions to the field.
• Strong data science capabilities, including a solid grasp of biostatistical principles.
• A track record of leading cross-functional teams within a matrixed environment.
• A collaborative and adaptable mindset, able to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary research setting.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills tailored to diverse audiences with varying levels of expertise.

Nice to have

• Experience with pathway analysis and multi-omics data integration, plus skills in Python and/or R for advanced data science.
• Specialized expertise in spatial and low-input proteomics.
