Novartis seeks a Senior Principal Scientist or Principal Scientist I/II in Basel to lead preclinical radioligand therapy research in oncology, driving in vivo studies and cross-functional collaboration to advance cancer treatments from discovery to clinic.

This role is central to advancing next-generation cancer therapies at Novartis, where the scientist will lead preclinical research in radioligand therapy, design impactful in vivo studies, and collaborate across global teams to translate scientific insights into life-changing treatments. The position combines scientific leadership with strategic influence and mentorship to support innovation in oncology drug discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee in vivo experiments to support preclinical assessment of radioligand therapies
  • Lead studies on efficacy, biodistribution, imaging, and mechanisms of action for oncology drug candidates
  • Work with cross-functional teams to move drug candidates toward clinical development
  • Manage collaborations with contract research organizations and academic partners
  • Support the growth of scientists by mentoring and guiding their professional and technical development
  • Communicate research findings clearly to influence decisions within global R&D teams

Requirements

  • PhD in Pharmacology, Cell Biology, or a related biomedical field
  • At least three years of additional experience in biomedical research in academia or industry
  • Solid expertise in cancer biology with a history of scientific success
  • Proven experience in designing and managing in vivo oncology studies, including efficacy and pharmacokinetic evaluations
  • Proficiency in ex vivo techniques such as flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, or RNA sequencing
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse, global, and multidisciplinary research environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Self-driven and capable of independently managing scientific projects

Nice to have

  • Background in radioligand therapy development or radiobiology
  • In-depth knowledge of oncology drug development or related therapeutic areas
