Principal Scientist III Oncology Drug Discovery Biology

Novartis Pharma Schweiz AG seeks a Principal Scientist III in Oncology Drug Discovery Biology based in Basel. The role involves leading a laboratory, driving drug discovery programs, and mentoring scientific associates.

The company is looking for a senior scientist to head a Drug Discovery Biology laboratory within its Oncology division. This position focuses on guiding scientific teams, applying advanced statistical analysis to large datasets, and designing innovative experiments to identify new therapeutic targets and advance drug discovery programs from early stages through development.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and mentor scientific staff to ensure high-quality experimental outcomes.
• Utilize advanced statistical methods to analyze large datasets and uncover biological insights or new therapeutic avenues.
• Create and carry out innovative experimental plans that produce clear data, test hypotheses, and advance project goals.
• Deploy state-of-the-art technologies for target identification, validation, and structure/function analysis, leading drug discovery initiatives from start to finish.
• Collaborate closely with Oncology expertise groups and cross-functional teams throughout the global organization.
• Present scientific findings and project updates clearly and objectively to diverse audiences.
• Adaptably manage laboratory resources as project priorities shift.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in cancer biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with up to 5 years of postdoctoral experience preferred.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced, competitive scientific environment.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities tailored to various audiences.
• Proven capability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in drug discovery and project leadership within biotech or pharmaceutical environments.
• Familiarity with microscopy and imaging technologies.
