Post Doctoral Scientist (IHB) - Computational Immunology

Roche · Basel

Roche seeks a Post Doctoral Scientist in Computational Immunology at its Institute of Human Biology in Basel, Switzerland. The role focuses on mapping immune cell states in human central nervous system inflammation, integrating multi-omic data to support translational research and therapeutic development.

This position is part of the Roche Institute of Human Biology (IHB) in Basel, contributing to the creation of a human atlas of CNS meningeal inflammation. The role connects foundational research in human biology with translational questions relevant to Roche’s drug development portfolio, aiming to deepen understanding of immune cell states in disease and inform future therapies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead computational projects on immune cell biology in human neuroinflammation, integrating multi-omic data to uncover disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets.
  • Help build a comprehensive human atlas of neuroinflammation by identifying cellular states and molecular signatures linked to healthy and diseased conditions.
  • Analyze high-dimensional datasets, including single-cell, repertoire, and spatial profiling, to generate hypotheses and guide translational research.
  • Perform analyses of T- and B-cell repertoires, including AIRR-seq, Rep-seq, and scRNA-seq + VDJ datasets, to understand immune responses.
  • Collaborate with scientists across IHB and pRED, especially in Neuroscience and Rare Disease, to translate biological insights into portfolio-relevant research.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, internal reports, and conference presentations, clearly communicating findings to diverse audiences.
  • Support a collaborative and inclusive research environment by working across different scientific teams.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Immunology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, or a related field, completed within the last four years.
  • Strong programming skills in R and Python.
  • Experience with multi-omic datasets, preferably including single-cell or spatial data.
  • Expertise in analyzing T- and B-cell biology, including knowledge of immune cell subsets and state heterogeneity.
  • Experience with immune repertoire profiling methods such as AIRR-seq, Rep-seq, or scRNA-seq + VDJ.
  • Experience using shared computing clusters or high-performance computing (HPC) environments for large-scale data analysis.
  • A strong interest in human immunology and neuroinflammation.
  • Ability to work across scientific functions and build productive collaborations.
  • Strong communication skills with professional fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to manage priorities, adapt to evolving research, and contribute to a team-oriented culture.

Nice to have

  • Research experience in adaptive neuroinflammation.
  • Knowledge of meningeal biology and tissue-specific immune niches.
  • Experience analyzing spatial transcriptomics, spatial proteomics, or related spatial omics data.
  • Familiarity with stromal biology.
  • Experience with human translational and multi-omic datasets.
  • Experience as an experimental scientist or in close collaboration with wet-lab teams.
  • Understanding of experimental design, technical execution, and limitations of data-generating assays.
  • Interest in translating human biology insights into therapeutic strategies relevant to Roche’s portfolio.

What the company offers

  • Opportunity to conduct research in IHB’s collaborative open-lab environment.
  • Contribution to an interdisciplinary effort to map immune cell states, repertoires, and molecular programs in human neuroinflammatory conditions.
  • Initial 2-year contract, with potential for extension.
