The Swiss Biotech Association seeks a mid-level Data Engineer in Basel to build scalable data and ML infrastructure for clinical diagnostics, ensuring regulatory compliance and reproducibility.

This position focuses on designing and maintaining core data, machine learning, and deployment systems within a regulated clinical diagnostics setting. The role combines data engineering, MLOps, and platform development to support scalable, traceable, and reproducible ML workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Construct reliable data ingestion pipelines to handle multi-modal datasets, including gigapixel images, genomic data, and clinical metadata.
  • Implement unit testing, logging, and quality controls to maintain a comprehensive data warehouse for both structured and unstructured information.
  • Oversee data quality, consistency, and traceability by developing an ML platform that supports model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Create frameworks compliant with FDA and IVDR standards for dataset access control, model versioning, and experiment tracking, aligning with regulatory strategies.
  • Collaborate with ML Engineers to improve existing image processing techniques.
  • Build production-ready, containerized services for model inference across on-premises, cloud, or OEM-integrated environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience developing scalable pipelines for large-scale structured and unstructured data, utilizing Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform or Cloudformation.
  • At least 4 years of experience creating solutions for distributed or high-performance data processing with reproducible, version-controlled infrastructure.
  • 4+ years of experience in data modeling, distributed data processing, experiment tracking, and MLOps within production environments.
  • 2+ years of experience building data or ML systems, preferably in regulated sectors such as medical devices, healthcare, or financial services, with a strong grasp of reproducibility, auditability, and data governance.
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with at least one deep learning framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Strong English communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid work permit for Switzerland or the EU, with availability to travel to Tunisia.

Nice to have
