Director M&A Tax

Novartis Pharma Schweiz AG seeks a Director of M&A Tax in Basel to lead tax strategy and execution for mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations.

This position is responsible for guiding tax workstreams across a wide range of transaction types. The role shapes the company’s M&A tax strategy, policies, and governance while ensuring best practices are applied throughout the deal lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Provide tax guidance from initial structuring through diligence, closing, and post-deal integration.
• Design tax-efficient structures that address international tax rules, transfer pricing, financing, and local regulations.
• Lead tax due diligence efforts, identifying key risks and presenting findings to stakeholders.
• Examine transaction documents to ensure alignment with tax strategy and minimize potential exposures.
• Collaborate with internal teams including Tax, Transfer Pricing, Treasury, Finance, Legal, and external advisors.
• Facilitate global and local implementation processes, ensuring compliance and smooth handovers.
• Leverage tax technology, analytics, and AI tools to enhance diligence, structuring, modeling, and overall efficiency.
• Stay updated on tax and M&A trends, building networks and serving as a trusted advisor for M&A tax matters.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Economics plus additional qualifications in Corporate or International Tax Law.
• Minimum six years of experience in tax consulting, transaction advisory, corporate tax, or in-house tax roles.
• Deep expertise in international corporate tax, transaction structuring, and tax due diligence.
• Proven track record supporting cross-border M&A, divestitures, or large-scale corporate reorganizations.
• Advanced understanding of accounting principles, including IFRS and statutory reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and work effectively in global, cross-functional teams.
• Strong interest in artificial intelligence and technology-driven approaches to tax and transaction management.
• Fluent English proficiency with the ability to communicate clearly, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing priorities.
