Executive Director M&A Transactions

Novartis seeks an Executive Director for M&A Transactions in Basel, Switzerland, to lead high-value acquisitions and divestments. The role requires extensive M&A experience, financial expertise, and leadership in cross-functional teams, with a hybrid work model and full-time employment.

As Executive Director, M&A Transactions, you will shape Novartis’s growth strategy by leading transformative deals that drive innovation and long-term impact. You will work closely with senior leadership to influence capital allocation and strengthen the company’s global portfolio, contributing to reimagining medicine for patients worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full lifecycle of complex mergers and acquisitions, from initial strategy to final closing
• Develop deal strategies, governance plans, timelines, and engagement approaches with target organizations
• Coordinate efforts across global legal, finance, tax, diligence, and commercial teams
• Manage due diligence processes to assess risks, value, and strategic alignment
• Negotiate transaction terms that balance commercial value with long-term strategic goals
• Present decision frameworks and recommendations to executive leadership
• Ensure seamless transition from deal approval to integration, preserving value and strategic intent

Requirements

• Proven track record in leading end-to-end M&A transactions across various deal types and regions
• Strong financial acumen, including valuation, financial modelling, and scenario planning
• Ability to align deals with corporate strategy and long-term growth goals
• In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks, competition law, and transaction governance
• Experience leading and influencing complex, cross-functional teams at senior levels
• Excellent communication skills, particularly with executive stakeholders
• Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry
