Roche seeks a (Sr.) Director for Pharma Partnering Transactions in Basel to lead strategic licensing and partnership deals globally, driving external innovation and complex negotiations.
The Partnering Transaction Group (PTG) operates within Roche’s Corporate Business Development organization, supporting partnerships for both Roche and Genentech across R&D assets, technologies, and commercial agreements worldwide. This role is critical to Roche’s strategy of leveraging external innovation to complement its internal pipeline, working alongside experienced professionals in Basel and San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a central figure on deal teams to advance strategic partnerships and licensing initiatives across all therapeutic areas and development stages globally.
- Lead or co-lead the creation of non-binding offers (NBOs) and term sheets, while managing negotiations with biopharma executives and external advisors.
- Present briefings to senior management at key milestones to inform and drive business decisions.
- Oversee all aspects of deal strategy and execution, including structuring transactions and analyzing financials based on valuation, risk, and due diligence findings.
- Draft term sheets and provide detailed feedback on complex licensing agreements, actively resolving deal-related issues.
- Identify deviations from standard financial and licensing clauses, assessing associated risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
- Develop transaction and negotiation capabilities within the organization by designing and delivering training materials.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Science, Business, Finance, Law, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in the pharma/biotech sector, including roles in professional services, advisory, or law firms supporting biopharma clients.
- Minimum of 5 years of specific experience in pharma/biotech transactions.
- Proven track record in negotiating complex licensing or M&A deals, ideally as the lead negotiator in the biopharma industry.
- Deep understanding of corporate functions such as finance, accounting, legal, and intellectual property (IP).
- Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to exercise advanced professional judgment for strategic thinking.
