Novartis seeks a Director, Therapeutic Area Biomarker Lead (Neuroscience) in Basel to drive precision medicine and translate scientific discovery into clinical impact through biomarker strategy and leadership.
This position focuses on bridging the gap between scientific discovery and patient care by developing biomarker strategies that support precision medicine across a diverse portfolio. The role aims to translate complex biological insights into tangible clinical outcomes, ensuring that innovative therapies reach patients effectively.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute biomarker strategies for specific disease indications or program portfolios.
- Collaborate with research, development, precision medicine, and commercial teams to align biomarker and diagnostic elements within clinical projects.
- Anticipate potential project challenges, devise solutions, and develop contingency plans.
- Act as the Biomarker Development representative on Biomedical Research or Development project teams.
- Provide supervision, training, and mentorship to Biomarker Experts.
- Offer expert biomarker insights for key clinical and regulatory submissions.
- Draft responses to inquiries from global Health Authorities.
- Lead or co-lead the Translational Data Science Committee and analytical clusters.
- Direct biomarker analyses with the sub-team, interpreting and reporting data to project stakeholders.
- Publish findings internally or externally and review relevant scientific literature.
Requirements
- PhD or PharmD degree with a robust background in biomarker development or related biological sciences.
- Eight to ten years of experience in drug development functions, particularly in biomarker or translational science.
- At least five years of experience in a relevant line function within industry, academia, or a regulatory agency.
- Deep knowledge of disease biomarkers, pharmacology, and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic evaluation.
- Strong grasp of regulatory requirements and experience supporting clinical and regulatory documentation.
- Proven ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary global project teams, with strong negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including coaching, mentoring, and people management.
- Fluent proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
