ABB Power Grids seeks an Industrial Engineer for GIS Production in Zürich to optimize manufacturing lines through automation, robotics, and industrial engineering principles. This junior role focuses on process improvement and continuous enhancement in a full-time, onsite capacity.
The company is looking for a motivated graduate or early-career professional to enhance the efficiency of Gas Insulated Switchgear manufacturing. The position centers on applying industrial engineering methods, automation, and robotic solutions to streamline production workflows and drive operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate existing production layouts and operational workflows to pinpoint opportunities for boosting efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing quality, specifically looking for automation possibilities.
- Create and deploy improved production methods, incorporating new techniques, automation strategies, robotic applications, equipment usage, and material movement.
- Perform time and motion analyses, map processes, and conduct value stream reviews to spot bottlenecks and remove activities that do not add value.
- Draft and roll out standard operating procedures and work instructions for GIS assembly and testing, covering both automated and robot-assisted tasks.
- Work closely with industrial engineers, production managers, design engineers, and quality or new product implementation teams.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts, utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects alongside digitalization and automation tools.
- Assess, define, and introduce new technologies such as collaborative robots, automated systems, and smart manufacturing solutions for the production floor.
Requirements
- Hold a Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Robotics, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Have initial professional experience in industrial engineering within a manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrate initial or proven experience with industrial automation and/or robotics integration, such as robotic cells, cobots, or automated material handling systems.
- Possess a strong background in process optimization, lean manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement methodologies like Kaizen or Six Sigma.
- Be proficient in process analysis tools including value stream mapping, time studies, and statistical process control.
- Show excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Be business fluent in both English and German.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with GIS production processes or similar complex electrical equipment manufacturing is highly desirable.
