Java Spring Boot Software Engineer (all genders)

Adesso Mode AG seeks a Mid-level Java Spring Boot Software Engineer in Zürich for a hybrid role focused on process orchestration and workflow automation.

This position centers on developing real-world systems by minimizing routine CRUD tasks. The architect defines the process through executable workflows using BPMN 2.0, CMMN, and DMN standards. Engineers execute these workflows on engines like Camunda, Flowable, or UiPath Maestro, supported by Java and Spring Boot services. The role demands full ownership of solution delivery by implementing process models and service tasks.

Responsibilities

• Convert complex real-world processes into robust, executable models.
• Handle classic process orchestration while introducing modern hyperautomation and agentic automation concepts.
• Select appropriate engines and patterns, create reusable components, and maintain platform scalability for enterprise demands.
• Implement process models and service tasks, integrating them into the IT landscape via REST APIs and message-based connections.
• Optimize engine performance and scalability for production environments.

Requirements

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Data Science, or a related field, or an IT apprenticeship.
• Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java, especially with Spring Boot.
• Experience with JUnit testing and mocking frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of DBMS, SQL, JPA, and ORM.
• Skilled in build automation using Maven or Gradle.
• Proficient with version control systems like Git.
• Solid understanding of RESTful web services and working with JSON/XML.
• Fluency in English and C1 proficiency in German.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with a workflow / process engine such as Camunda, Flowable, or UiPath Maestro.
• Practical command of the standard modelling notations - BPMN 2.0, CMMN 1.1, and DMN 1.3.
• Comfortable orchestrating long-running processes: service tasks, message and signal events, timers, and decision tables.
• Knowledge of deeper process modelling and architecture notations (advanced BPMN patterns, UML, event-driven and microservice design).
• Experience in frontend development, ideally with React.
