CERN seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and integrate structures for the CMS detector's innermost region in Geneva. This onsite contract role focuses on prototyping, assembly, and commissioning ahead of the LHC's Long Shutdown 3.
The company is looking for a specialist to handle the mechanical design, construction, and integration of components for the innermost section of the CMS detector. The position requires managing the full lifecycle from 3D modeling and thermo-mechanical analysis to final installation and commissioning at the end of the LHC's Long Shutdown 3.
Responsibilities
- Create 3D models and technical drawings while conducting thermo-mechanical analyses for complex assemblies.
- Manage the procurement of components and supervise the fabrication process, ensuring quality assurance standards are met.
- Direct the assembly of mock-ups, prototypes, and final support structures for the CMS innermost region.
- Help with the integration and testing of the Inner Tracker and Luminosity Monitors.
- Supervise and support colleagues from partner institutes during integration activities at the facility.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven track record in designing complex mechanical parts using 3D CAD software.
- Experience performing structural and thermal simulations via finite-element analysis.
- Background in the construction, assembly, and quality control of mechanical systems.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- A valid driving license.
