The company is seeking a Mechanical Technician to support the upgrade of the CMS ECAL detector at the LHC in Geneva. The position involves mechanical assembly, logistics coordination, and technical support for detector maintenance activities.
This position plays a key part in the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) upgrade project for the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The technician will manage mechanical tasks, handle delicate detector components, and coordinate logistics while collaborating closely with the ECAL and CMS technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Deliver mechanical assistance for all ECAL-related tasks.
- Safely manage the extraction, insertion, and refurbishment of fragile ECAL detector Supermodules.
- Organize the logistics for materials and equipment needed for detector refurbishment.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between the CMS experiment site and the ECAL refurbishment team.
- Support maintenance operations for cooling systems, mechatronic equipment, and instrumentation setups.
Requirements
- Hold a Higher Technical Diploma or possess equivalent experience in Mechanics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrate knowledge of cooling system operation and maintenance.
- Show experience in coordinating logistics.
- Ability to read 2D/3D designs and manufacture mechanical parts accordingly.
- Skills in designing, constructing, and assembling mechanical components.
- Experience in detector assembly, including cooling, pressure testing, and leak detection.
- Proficiency in handling large and fragile equipment.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in assembling mechanical structures and equipment.
- Skills in manufacturing mechanical parts.
- Experience in integrating mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of operating and maintaining cooling water systems.
- Familiarity with operating handling systems.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
Nice to have
- Experience in creating 2D and 3D drawings.
- Background in cutting, polishing, and assembling optical materials.
- Experience with cabling and soldering.
- Knowledge of applying safety regulations and procedures.
