Electrical Technician, Magnet Systems

The company seeks a mid-level Electrical Technician for Magnet Systems to develop and maintain electrical infrastructure for R&D experiments across multiple sites, enabling faster build-test-iterate cycles.

This position supports research and development activities at facilities in Villigen and Böttstein. The technician will design electrical systems, handle installations, and troubleshoot issues to help engineering and science teams prototype and test experimental setups more efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Link experimental setups to measurement and control systems.
  • Build and assemble control panels, junction boxes, and electrical cabinets.
  • Wire sensors, heaters, and other instrumentation components.
  • Integrate power supplies, acquisition systems, and test equipment from an electrical standpoint.
  • Conduct electrical checks, verification, and commissioning for new setups.
  • Diagnose and fix electrical faults, component failures, and system issues.
  • Procure and install power distribution equipment for new experiments and manufacturing tools.
  • Power up and connect prototype rigs and manufacturing equipment.
  • Supervise electrical work performed by external contractors.
  • Ensure all installations meet safety standards, regulations, and internal procedures.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical infrastructure and support systems.
  • Maintain neat, compliant, and industrial-standard installations.

Requirements

  • Completed training and hands-on experience as an electrician or electrical technician.
  • Swiss vocational diploma (Elektroinstallateur EFZ) or equivalent.
  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of safe electrical practices and regulations.
  • Ability to develop electrical infrastructure, read and create diagrams, size cables and protection devices, and troubleshoot real-world systems.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D environment with close collaboration among engineers, scientists, and technicians.

Nice to have

  • Qualification as a technically responsible person (fachkundige Person) under Swiss NIV.
  • German language proficiency.
  • Valid Swiss driving license.
  • Prior experience in R&D settings.
  • Experience creating and updating Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs) and designing power distribution networks.
  • Familiarity with ECAD software.
  • Background with power supplies, low-voltage industrial systems, or control cabinets.
  • Experience commissioning complex technical systems.
  • VEFK designation for electrical work in Germany.
