Proxima Fusion in Zürich seeks a mid-level Technician for onsite work in Villigen and Böttstein. The role supports manufacturing and integration of magnet prototypes and experimental setups, requiring hands-on workshop skills and collaboration with engineers.
This role focuses on workshop operations in Villigen and Böttstein, supporting the manufacturing and integration of magnet prototypes and experimental setups. The technician plays a key part in enabling efficient prototype construction and maintaining pace during high-activity periods, working closely with engineers and other technicians.
Responsibilities
- Carry out hands-on workshop tasks such as machining, mechanical assembly, wiring, and component installation
- Construct, test, and refine mechanical and electromechanical prototypes based on early-stage designs
- Assist in manufacturing, integrating, and troubleshooting components for magnet prototypes
- Help with setting up, fitting, adjusting, and modifying parts during prototype development and testing
- Support installation, operation, and modification of experimental setups and test rigs
- Work closely with engineers and technicians to enable fast prototyping and iterative development
- Keep workshop and lab areas clean, organized, and running efficiently
Requirements
- Technical training in mechanical engineering, polymechanics, or a related field, with solid hands-on experience in workshop settings (machining, assembly, installation)
- Comfortable using tools, machines, and mechanical systems, including machining, wiring, mechanical assembly, and basic test/calibration equipment
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
- Detail-oriented and safety-focused, with a strong focus on quality and precision
- Practical problem solver with strong craftsmanship; capable of working both independently and as part of a team
- Reliable and proactive, with a solution-driven mindset and a sense of ownership
- Adaptable and flexible, able to handle diverse tasks in fast-paced R&D or technical environments
- Strong team player with good communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with engineers and technicians; good English required
Nice to have
- Experience in welding
- Background in prototype manufacturing or R&D environments
- Familiarity with machining processes, including CNC or manual methods
- Experience with mechanical installation and system integration
- Experience with vacuum technology
