Datwyler seeks a Mid-level Technician for Advanced Technologies in Schattdorf, CH, supporting rapid prototyping, lab operations, and innovative R&D projects.
This position sits at the intersection of innovation, prototyping, and production, providing essential support to the Advanced Technology Department. The technician helps drive innovative projects by managing rapid prototyping tasks, novel welding and printing methods, and laboratory support activities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with R&D and Advanced Technology initiatives, focusing on rapid prototyping and new manufacturing techniques.
- Manage 3D printing operations, including job initiation, monitoring progress, and performing basic troubleshooting.
- Post-process printed components through washing, curing, finishing, and visual quality checks.
- Track inventory levels and timely order resins and other necessary consumables.
- Set up and execute moulding trials, preparing inserts and tools as needed.
- Prepare rubber and other materials for trials by cutting them into strips or straps.
- Prepare parts and samples for overmoulding and further testing, including cutting and labelling.
- Document process parameters and test results in a structured manner.
- Operate various machines, including printing, moulding, and welding equipment.
- Collaborate with engineers to set and adjust process parameters.
- Conduct test series to optimize processes, such as welding bipolar plates or refining prototyping routes.
- Coordinate prototyping trials with the prototyping department and production teams.
- Ensure parts and samples are ready on time for project milestones.
Requirements
- Completed technical education (e.g., lab technician, polymechanic, production technician, materials technician) or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in rubber and/or polymer molding.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and willingness to keep structured records.
- Good communication skills in English.
Nice to have
- Experience in a lab, prototyping, production or workshop environment.
- First exposure to 3D printing, polymer welding or similar manufacturing processes – or strong motivation to learn.
- German language skills are an advantage.
