ETH Zurich offers a full-time, on-site PhD position in Infrastructure Intervention Effectiveness Analysis for Road Safety, part of a new EU Horizon project. The role focuses on developing methodologies to assess urban road safety using multi-source data, explainable AI, and XR experimentation, with validation in four European cities.
This PhD position is part of a multidisciplinary EU Horizon project aiming to advance safe active mobility through human-centred, evidence-based research. It moves beyond crash-focused safety by integrating actual and perceived safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and micromobility users. The project combines traffic, infrastructure, vehicle, and health data with immersive XR experiments and explainable AI to develop harmonised assessment methods, predictive models, and validated indicators. Large-scale pilots in four European cities will validate these methods in real-world conditions.
