PhD Position in AI-Supported Resilience Assessment of Climate-Neutral Transport Infrastructure

ETH Zurich offers a full-time, on-site PhD position in AI-supported resilience assessment of climate-neutral transport infrastructure, part of the EU Horizon project SHIFTIN. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and be fluent in English; experience with AI analytics or digital twins is advantageous.

This PhD position is part of the EU Horizon project SHIFTIN, which aims to advance climate-neutral, resilient, and biodiversity-friendly transport infrastructure by 2050. It is hosted by the Chair of Infrastructure Management, led by Professor T. Adey, within the Institute of Construction and Infrastructure Management at ETH Zurich.

Responsibilities

  • Create AI-driven stress-testing and surrogate modeling techniques to evaluate the resilience of interconnected transport systems under climate and multi-hazard conditions.
  • Contribute to fast, data-backed assessments of design, retrofit, maintenance, and recovery approaches at asset, corridor, and network levels.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field, as evidenced by official transcripts and degree certificates.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with AI-supported analytics, digital twins, or modeling of infrastructure resilience.
