The University of Geneva seeks a faculty member in Practical Theology to lead research, teach theology students, and foster collaboration between the university and Protestant churches.
This position sits at the intersection of academic theology and church practice. The appointee will act as a key liaison between the Faculty of Theology, the Protestant Church in Geneva, and other Protestant bodies across French-speaking Switzerland. The role demands deep expertise in Practical Theology, covering areas such as homiletics, liturgy, and ecclesiology.
Responsibilities
- Direct a research group and collaborate with the Institut lémanique de théologie pratique (ILTP), the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Theology, the University of Lausanne’s Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, and the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Humanities.
- Deliver lectures and seminars for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, ensuring at least six hours of instruction weekly, both on-site and online.
- Provide pastoral training components within the Master of Theology curriculum.
- Instruct students at both the University of Geneva and the University of Lausanne campuses.
- Offer advanced courses for doctoral candidates and CUSO programs, and potentially lead continuing education initiatives.
- Produce high-quality scientific publications and initiate original research projects in partnership with local, national (FNS), and international academic institutions.
- Participate in civil society engagements, including interactions with church communities, media outlets, conferences, and committees.
- Carry out administrative duties assigned by the Faculty and University governance bodies.
Requirements
- Hold a PhD in Theology or an equivalent doctoral degree.
- Possess prior experience in university-level teaching and research within the relevant theological discipline.
- Demonstrate excellent proficiency in French, as it is the primary working language.
- Maintain very good command of both English and German.
- Be capable of delivering instruction in English, which is a mandatory condition for the role.
