Professional Firefighter (HSE-FRS-2026-104-LD)

CERN seeks a mid-level professional firefighter for onsite work in Geneva. The role involves 12-hour shifts, emergency response, and equipment maintenance.

This position requires readiness for 12-hour shifts and 24/7 emergency response. The firefighter will conduct inspections, manage dispatch activities, and perform specialized rescue tasks to maintain safety across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Execute firefighting, medical assistance, and rescue missions.
  • Oversee emergency dispatch and coordinate response activities.
  • Carry out safety inspections to ensure compliance with fire codes.
  • Support operations in confined spaces, hazardous material handling, and high-risk transport.
  • Take part in regular drills and ongoing professional training programs.
  • Lead or assist in fire safety campaigns, training sessions, and joint safety projects.
  • Maintain firefighting and medical equipment, including extinguishers and hydrants.
  • Contribute to internal Fire and Rescue Service projects.
  • Handle administrative tasks and support team operations.
  • Participate in individual and group fitness activities.

Requirements

  • Possess official diplomas or certifications proving firefighter education and training.
  • Credentials must be issued by a public authority or a private entity acting under public delegation.
  • Have current experience working as a professional firefighter in a public or corporate fire service.
  • Hold a valid C category driving licence.
  • Live close to CERN's installations.
  • Secure medical clearance prior to contract confirmation.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in control rooms or ambulance services.
  • Ability to communicate in French or English for daily and emergency situations.
