CERN seeks a Senior Chemical Safety Engineer to lead specialist activities within its HSE department, ensuring compliance and safety for large-scale facilities in Geneva.
This position operates within the Occupational Health and Safety Group, specifically under the General Safety and Equipment Integrity section. The incumbent acts as a dedicated expert for chemical safety matters, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to uphold rigorous safety standards across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Offer expert guidance and assistance regarding chemical safety matters, including the execution of risk assessments.
- Conduct safety inspections and verifications for various installations and operational activities.
- Assist in establishing requirements for the compliant transportation of hazardous materials.
- Support safety audits, technical reviews, and broader project initiatives.
- Verify that engineering and tendering specifications adhere to established safety standards.
- Author CERN safety documentation, such as rules, instructions, and guidelines.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs in partnership with the CERN Safety Training service.
Requirements
- A Master's degree or equivalent professional experience in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- Proven track record in managing chemical safety engineering for large industrial facilities or major projects.
- Experience advising on chemical and biological hazards, including the logistics of dangerous goods transport.
- Familiarity with European regulations or equivalent national standards pertaining to chemical safety.
- Understanding of occupational safety and risk management, covering hazard identification, analysis, risk assessment, and compensatory measures.
- Knowledge of personal protective equipment standards.
- Competence in safety conformity assessment procedures.
- Fluency in spoken and written English or French, with a willingness to learn the other language.
