Senior Automation Engineer - PLC Application

Bhend Elektroplan GmbH in Zürich seeks a Senior Automation Engineer to develop and maintain PLC and HMI applications for Kanadevia Inova systems, primarily using Siemens platforms. The role involves collaboration with R&D and Service, technical documentation review, and on-site or remote commissioning, with up to 20% global travel and on-call duties.

This role focuses on the development, maintenance, and enhancement of PLC and HMI applications for Kanadevia Inova systems, primarily using Siemens platforms. The engineer will work closely with R&D and Service teams to improve software and hardware solutions, ensure technical documentation meets client and regulatory standards, and support system commissioning both on-site and remotely.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update PLC and HMI applications using Siemens platforms (TIA Portal, WinCC, Step 7) for Kanadevia Inova systems.
• Collaborate with R&D and Service teams to continuously improve Kanadevia Inova software and hardware solutions.
• Review technical specifications and Request for Quotation documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with norms, codes, and client needs.
• Configure networking devices including managed switches, routers, DMZ routers, and firewalls.
• Set up and configure industrial PCs for deployment.
• Perform Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning of KVI PLC systems, both on-site and remotely.
• Be available for global travel up to 20% and participate in on-call duties with the team.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of practical experience with Siemens PLC systems (TIA Portal, Step 7, WinCC).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering.
• Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols including Profinet, Profibus, ModbusTCP, OPC UA, and Ethernet.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings and Piping and Instrument Diagrams.
• Proactive, solution-focused mindset with decision-making capability.
• Strong knowledge of process engineering procedures and functions, along with basic electrical knowledge.
• Analytical thinking, planning, organizational skills, high quality standards, technical adaptability, and strong teamwork and communication abilities.
