Senior/ Principal Transport Planner and Modeller

Ramboll Switzerland seeks a Senior or Principal Transport Planner and Modeller to lead complex transport studies, microsimulation projects, and client advisory services across infrastructure and development sectors.

This position is responsible for directing the full lifecycle of transport planning and modelling initiatives. The role holder provides technical leadership on major projects, ensuring that transport evidence is robust, defensible, and aligned with client objectives from initial concept through to final delivery.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the creation and review of Transport Studies, Assessments, Statements, and Travel Plans.
• Lead the development, calibration, and validation of microsimulation models, primarily using VISSIM.
• Provide expert guidance on junction modelling and network assessments using Junctions 10, LinSig, and similar tools.
• Design modelling methodologies and analysis frameworks to support planning applications, infrastructure studies, and business cases.
• Conduct scenario testing and sensitivity analysis to ensure outputs are robust and meet client goals.
• Act as the technical approver for modelling studies, ensuring high quality assurance standards.
• Integrate microsimulation results with strategic and multimodal modelling where applicable.
• Advise clients and stakeholders on modelling assumptions, methodologies, and result interpretation.
• Manage the end-to-end delivery of transport planning and modelling tasks.
• Offer strategic transport advice for projects in development, infrastructure, aviation, and the public sector.
• Lead technical discussions with local authorities and statutory consultees.
• Present modelling results and transport evidence at client meetings, workshops, planning committees, and public inquiries.

Requirements

• Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Typically 10+ years of experience in transport planning and modelling consultancy.
• Extensive experience in developing and applying microsimulation models using VISSIM.
• Strong proficiency in junction modelling using Junctions 10 and LinSig.
• Proven track record of delivering transport evidence for major planning applications and infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of DfT TAG, NPPF, and relevant transport planning guidance.
• Demonstrable project management and client leadership experience.
• Excellent analytical, report writing, and presentation skills.
