Proton seeks a Senior SEO Manager in Zürich to lead technical SEO strategy for its organic growth team, driving traffic and revenue through data-driven engineering and product collaboration.
The Organic Growth team at Proton manages the company's SEO strategy across all products and markets, treating it as a high-leverage acquisition channel. This role operates at the intersection of engineering, product, and marketing, focusing on shipping technical changes rather than just providing recommendations. SEO is prioritized as a technical discipline first, ensuring that search optimization is integrated deeply into the product development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Manage the complete SEO roadmap, including opportunity identification, initiative prioritization, and impact measurement.
- Lead technical SEO efforts covering crawling, indexation, site architecture, Core Web Vitals, rendering, and JavaScript optimization.
- Analyze organic performance metrics using tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Oncrawl, and Screaming Frog.
- Utilize large datasets to discover growth opportunities that go beyond standard reporting capabilities.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to implement technical improvements that drive measurable results.
- Develop and execute international SEO strategies, including hreflang implementation and scalable site architecture.
- Work with content teams to define search intent and prioritize high-impact content opportunities.
- Support authority growth through digital PR and strategic link acquisition campaigns.
- Create reporting frameworks that connect SEO performance directly to traffic, revenue, and business growth.
- Design, run, and evaluate SEO experiments to continuously improve overall performance.
Requirements
- Demonstrated success in growing organic traffic through SEO strategies.
- Strong understanding of technical SEO and the mechanics of modern websites.
- Proficiency with SEO platforms such as Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or SEMrush.
- Ability to work with data to transform complex problems into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience collaborating with engineering, product, or development teams.
Nice to have
- Experience working on large-scale websites such as ecommerce, SaaS, marketplaces, or publisher platforms.
- Proficiency in SQL and/or BigQuery.
- Deep expertise in site architecture, crawl optimization, and JavaScript SEO.
- Experience with BI tools such as Looker Studio, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Familiarity with SEO testing or experimentation frameworks.
